The government through Parliament, on Monday wired Shs. 120,414,000 to Mukono municipality legislator, Betty Nambooze who is currently undergoing treatment in India.
Nyceradio has exclusively landed on the details of payments to foot all the hospital bills of Nambooze, plus a daily per diem for 15 days for both the MP and her accompanying doctor from Uganda.
Nambooze was flown out on November 2nd 2017 to India for specialized medical attention.
She successfully underwent Posterior Lumbar Decompression and Fusion operation on Wednesday this week.
According to medics in Kampala, Nambooze had suffered injuries on her annulus fibrosis — the outer part of the disc that surrounds the gel-like nucleus in the lower back.
Immediately after the operation, Nambooze took to the social media and said the government failed to treat her and instead praised the main opposition leader, Dr. Kizza Besigye.
It was reported that Dr. Besigye wired USD$20,000 (About Shs70million) to Nambooze at the last moment when the Parliament had “failed” to fulfill the commitment to meet the expenses.
This website has however, established that money was sent from Bank of Uganda to Nambooze’s provided account number at Stanbic Bank main branch, two days before the surgery.
The money was sent through Electronic Fund Transfer from Treasury General Account (Debt Account) number 003040058000001 to Stanbic Bank Main branch account number 90300140428** under payment number 15621074.
According to the payment breakdown, Nambooze got in advance USD$720 per diem for 15 days. Her accompanying physician, Dr. Tenywa Fred Giggs has been given USD$3,660 and the treatment cost is USD$14,000. The grand total is 120,414,000.
According to sources at Finance Ministry, Nambooze provided an account number different from her official account number already in the system. It took time to first include the new account number to the system and Ministry of Finance was also undergoing upgrade.
