His Highness Sheikh Dr Sultan bin Mohammed Al Qasimi, Member of the Supreme Council and Ruler of Sharjah, has ordered the release of 187 prisoners of various nationalities from Sharjah Punitive and Reformatory Establishments (SPRE) (Central Jail) on the occasion of the holy month of Ramadan.
The pardon has been granted to prisoners who showed good conduct. Jail inmates in financial debts were also pardoned, as well as those who committed various crimes – except murder and drug trafficking.
Brig Saif Al Zeri, commander-in-chief of Sharjah Police said the prisoners who are benefiting from the pardon decision have met all conditions and requirements laid down by the police to ensure that they become good citizens and learn from their mistakes.
The pardoned extended their thanks and appreciation to His Highness the Ruler of Sharjah for this generous gesture.
All this comes as Muslims in the world are eagerly waiting for the sighting of the moon to fast the Holy Month of Ramadhan.
