Drake has once again broken a streaming record in the US – this time, his own – with his critically acclaimed More Life.
The man who dissed the Grammys for labelling his music on the colour of his skin has outdone himself, breaking the record for the number of online streams from a single album in one week.
More Life is Drake’s fifth studio project but is described as a playlist – a compilation of 22 tracks produced by names such as T-Minus and Kanye West.
Drake’s highly praised mix tape recorded 385 million streams across all platforms on its first week, beating his 2016 album Views, which reached 245 million.
Drizzy, whose fortune is estimated by Forbes to be around £47m, has debuted seven records at number one on the US Billboard 200 chart.
But More Life moved 23,000 track equivalent album units and 226,000 in traditional album sales units, which is the second-most this year after Sheeran.
Dubbed the “King of Spotify” for being the platforms most streamed act, Drake has scheduled the release of his new album on CD 31 March with vinyl following shortly after.
